FW40

In 2017, Lance Stroll lined-up alongside Felipe Massa after the Brazilian completed a U-turn on his retirement and re-joined Williams following Valterri Bottas’ move to Mercedes.

Lance endured a tough start to his rookie Formula One season, with three retirements before finishing 11th at the fourth round in Russia. Lance went on to score his first points at his home Grand Prix in Montreal with ninth position. Later that year, Lance became the youngest rookie Formula One driver to finish on the podium with third place at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

More success followed, and Lance became the youngest Formula One driver to start on the front row after qualifying second for the Italian Grand Prix.

In contrast, Felipe had a very consistent year, scoring points in no less than twelve races, but he also suffered his fair share of misfortune. Felipe had climbed his way up to third in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and looked to be within contention of winning the race before a mechanical failure forced him to retire the car.

The 2017 season concluded with the team finishing fifth in the Constructors’ Championship for a second consecutive year. Felipe and Lance finished the year 11th and 12th respectively in the Drivers’ Championship.
