FW25
There are significant changes to the sporting regulations this year. For the first time in the history of F1, world championship points are awarded down to eighth place and one-lap qualifying is implemented. The drivers react well to the rule changes and the FW25 proves competitive from the outset. Juan Pablo Montoya and Ralf Schumacher both score points in 12 out of the 16 races, but Ferrari pips the team to the constructors’ championship – again! Montoya’s close-fought victory in Monaco comes exactly 20 years after the team’s last win in the Principality, when Keke Rosberg took the spoils in 1983. “What a brilliant race to win,” says the Colombian. At the Nurburgring BMW announces the continuation of its partnership with Williams until 2009, while McLaren announces at the end of the year that Juan Pablo Montoya will join the team in 2005.
